KACA Workshop and Demonstrations
Kahlil Irving, Throwing Demonstration
Kahlil Irving will be joining us from completing a residency at the University of Pecs in Hungary. He will be demoing his interests in construct methods to make works from his "Black Matter" series and his "Street Mass" series. Along with his presentation of ceramics production he will talk about how he engages diverse installation possibilities plus how he engages the world professionally as a full time artist. Within his lecture he will present on his professional development, international residencies, grants, and his artist research.
FHSU Crew, Blacksmithing Workshop
Learn the basic techniques of blacksmithing.
Tobias Flores, Aluminum Casting Workshop
The first three sessions of this workshop will offer the student the opportunity to make their own pattern using craft foam, which will be used to make molds. The session held on Saturday at 1pm will be the culmination of all the previous sessions. Everyone is invited to witness the Aluminum pour to fill the molds!
Michael Knutson, Plein Air Painting Workshop
This workshop will focus on the important fundamentals of Plein Air Painting for any level of artist. We will paint the beautiful Bethany College campus using a limited color pallet with basic tools.
Tara L Dean, Lecture, Professionalism as an Artist: How to Make Art Work
Do you ever feel like you missed a chance to convert a potential lead into an actual sale? This workshop will teach you how to follow up on the subtle cues clients give us when they are considering buying a piece, so that your artwork can indeed “go home”.
Nelson Smith, Secrets of Ordinary Things: Found Object Relief Prints
Adapted from legendary Fluxus artist, Alison Knowles’ work, participants will explore methods of the Fluxus art movement and how these methods can be incorporated into printmaking - particularly relief printing. Participants are asked to bring three or more found objects that have areas that can be inked and printed. Individual works and a group print project will be produced.
Brian McCallum, Figure Demonstration
Brian will demonstrate his technique on how to create a figure from a ceramic wheel thrown form.
Live Art Auction
The art auction is a fun way to collect art from your fellow KACA members and donate to a great cause at the same time. All members, no matter how experienced is encouraged to donate a small work of art to the auction. At a designated time in the schedule, the auction will begin this year with a LIVE auction! The winners of the bids can pay with credit card, PayPal or check. All proceeds from the auction go toward allowing the organization to put on another wonderful conference next year. Thank you for donating and purchasing!
Art Swap
Last year’s art swap was a great success, so we’re doing it again. Jennifer Nolan is the coordinator for this activity. Here is how it works.
- Sign up. I will limit the group to 10. If we get a quite a few over that number, we may open a second group. Sign up by commenting on our Facebook post or emailing me at jnolan@dc3.edu.
- When the deadline to sign up arrives (October 13), we will know for sure exactly how many mini artworks each person should bring. Follow this post to keep informed.
- Make your mini artworks. All media is acceptable. Most measured under 5”.
- Bring your mini artworks to the KACA Conference. We will meet on Friday, November 3rd at 3pm to swap. Exact room will be announced at a later date.
- Swap! For example, if we have 10 participants, each participant needs to bring 9 mini artworks to exchange with the other 9 participants. Each person will leave with 9 different mini artworks from each of the other participants. You’ll have an instant collection!
If you have any questions, email Jennifer at jnolan@dc3.edu or message her on Facebook.
